Top medical performance at the A1 Beach Pro Vienna 2024: a look back
The A1 Beach Pro Vienna 2024 was once again a highlight in Vienna’s sporting calendar this year.
From July 10 to 14, Vienna’s Heumarkt was transformed into a cauldron where the best beach volleyball teams in the world battled it out for victory.
I, Dr. Martin Gruber, once again had the honor of being the on-site medical director – for the seventh time.

Expertise and experience of our medical team
As head of the Alser Straße Medical Center (MZA ), I am fortunate to work with a team of highly qualified experts and professionals.
Every year, I put together a new team for the A1 Beach Pro Vienna in order to provide the highest quality of medical treatment and ensure that the athletes receive ideal care.
Many of the team members come from the MZA, where the focus is on all-round patient care.
Cooperation with Sporthalle Wien
There is also close cooperation with Sporthalle Wien, the competence center for sports science expertise and individual training.
Whether rehabilitation, returning to training after injury or athletic training – Sporthalle Wien offers a wide range of training options.
This cooperation enables us to guarantee the highest level of medical and rehabilitative care for athletes.
Cooperation with the Rudolfinerhaus private clinic
Since the beginning of my work as the tournament doctor in charge, the Rudolfinerhaus has been a reliable partner for imaging diagnostics and surgical treatment of acute injuries to athletes.
Challenges and logistics
This year’s tournament presented our medical team with special logistical challenges.
While the center court at Heumarkt provided a fantastic atmosphere, the side courts were located on the Danube Island as usual.
This spatial separation required careful planning and coordination to ensure that all athletes received the best possible medical care at all times.
